About Val
Hello,
Government and public sector hiring is not broken. It is doing exactly what it was designed to do: screen for evidence.
Most people who apply never hear back — not because they weren’t qualified, but because they didn’t know how the system scores them. That’s not a resume problem. That’s a knowledge problem. And it’s fixable.
Who I Am
My name is Val. I’m a civil engineer who has spent over two decades working inside the Ontario public sector — from an entry-level role at the City of Toronto all the way up, and now at the City of Ottawa.
During that time I served on hiring panels as a subject matter expert. I saw exactly how applications get screened, how interviews get scored, and where capable candidates lose — not because they lacked experience, but because they didn’t know how to show it in the language the system understands.
That gap bothered me. So I started helping people close it.
What began as volunteering — at TRIEC, JVC, and through the City of Toronto’s own mentorship programs — turned into over 13 years of paid consulting. I’ve helped hundreds of professionals at every stage of the process: people exploring government work for the first time, people applying and not hearing back, people already inside and trying to move up.
How I Help
Structured, merit-based hiring operates by rules most candidates never learn. My work is to teach you those rules and show you how your background fits — so you stop guessing and start applying with precision.
If you’re exploring government work, I’ll show you how the system works, where the jobs are, and whether your experience positions you for it. One session. Immediate clarity.
If you’re actively applying, I’ll align your resume and interview answers to the exact criteria being evaluated — so screeners see a match and panels score you.
If you’re already inside and want to advance, the same system applies. Internal competitions, union rules, and how to position yourself — I know how that works too.
This Is Not Just About Government
The method I use prepares you for any structured hiring environment in Canada — government at every level, public sector agencies, and large private organizations where hiring decisions are made against defined criteria and formal evaluation processes.
Once you understand how structured hiring evaluates candidates, you stop guessing. You apply with precision, get shortlisted consistently, and build a career that lasts.
Where to Start
If something here resonates, the simplest next step is to contact me directly. Tell me where you are in the process — exploring, applying, or already in — and I’ll tell you honestly whether and how I can help.
No pressure. No pitch. Just a straight conversation.

Credentials & Experience
What Makes This Service Different.
Most resume writers fix your formatting. Most career coaches work on your confidence. Neither teaches you how structured hiring actually evaluates you — and that is the only thing that determines whether you get shortlisted.
This service is different because it is built on the inside mechanics of structured, merit-based hiring. Not general advice. Not templates. The actual logic screeners use, the actual criteria panels score against, and exactly how to position your real experience to match both.
What you learn here does not expire after one application. The system is repeatable. Once you understand how structured hiring works — how to read a job posting for evaluation criteria, how to extract and surface your experience in the language screeners look for, how to build interview answers that score points — you carry that knowledge into every competition you enter, for the rest of your career.
And it does not stop at the offer. The same understanding that gets you in gives you a head start on the inside. Internal competitions, advancement, knowing how the system sees you — most people spend years figuring this out on their own. You will not have to.
AI cannot do this for you. AI can reformat and rephrase. It cannot synthesize your actual background against specific merit criteria the way a person who has sat on hiring panels can. The nuance that gets you shortlisted is human judgment — and that is what this service delivers.
One method. Every door. For life.
No vague coaching, no fake guarantees. Just best-practice support to help you get shortlisted and get hired.
